About Me...
My name is Carrie Clark, NP (Nurse Practitioner), and I am the sole injector for Excellence Aesthetics. I have an amazing Medical Director, Dr Jay Pennock MD, who has an awesome functional medicine practice down in Capitola, along with other locations. For those of you who have been following my journey in aesthetics, I was formerly Brilliance Aesthetics but about one year ago now, have made some wonderful changes in not only the name of the business, but also the location.
Be sure to check out the location on the website home page!
Whether you are new to me or have been seeing me for years, I’d like to give you a little background of how I came to be where I am. I was born and raised in a little cheese head rural town in the state of Wisconsin. I have one younger sister who is also a Nurse Practitioner in Wisconsin. All of my family is there except for myself. I decided to make the move out here in 2012 when a dear friend of mine, native to the Bay Area, convinced me to make the big move out here. I was afraid, and told myself I could always go back home, but once I moved, I never turned back.
I started my nursing journey right out of high school. I graduated early from high school and took a CNA (certified nursing assistant) course. This was a prerequisite for nursing school. I worked in a hospital setting on an Orthopedics/Neurology unit and then began my journey into nursing school. I worked full time almost the entire time through school up until current day. Could I do that now? Heck no! It sure took a lot of energy!
I worked in Wisconsin while finishing my nursing degree. I attended a program so after your first year you could take your nursing boards and become an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) and then continue your second year to obtain your Associate’s Degree. After my first year, when I passed my boards, I began working as an LVN in Wisconsin in a rehabilitation facility/nursing home that also included working in long-term care and dementia units.
Shortly thereafter, I moved to Minnesota and began working at an outpatient surgery center. At this center I worked in the preoperative, postoperative, and pain center areas. This was a whole new world for me, working at a surgery center, and I loved it! It really made me appreciate my days of working in the nursing home because it was some darn hard work, and those who continue to work in these facilities deserve a round of applause for the hard work and energy they put in each and every day.
When I left Minnesota to come to California, I was in the process of obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree online through the University of Phoenix. I made it! I made the move to California and continued to work at a new outpatient surgery center in Campbell, CA. Here I continued my growth in working in the preoperative and postoperative areas. I also worked in the pain management operating rooms and became trained to work in the endoscopy rooms as a sedation nurse.
With each step in my nursing journey, I would work for a few years and then would go back to school to take the next step in becoming an NP. My next step was to get into the NP program. I attended Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine and obtained my Master’s degree. While attending NP school, I was also being trained at work to be an operating room nurse all while working full-time. Whew! I sure had a lot on my plate! But I did it and I am now a Master’s Degree Family Nurse Practitioner.
My true passion was to one day get into the aesthetics realm, but my first NP job out of school was working at an Orthopedic Practice in Campbell, CA. This allowed me to develop and advance my clinical skills as well as my assisting skills in the operating room. This was a great experience in getting to where I am now.
For those of you who know me, most of you know I continue to assist surgeons who need assistants for their surgeries in the operating room as well as manage Excellence Aesthetics. I love the variety and flexibility they both have to offer. I wanted to mention this again, even for those who have heard it before, because I wanted to say thank you to those who have been so flexible with my schedule, as surgery is quite unpredictable as far as knowing when my day will end and when things come up unexpectedly. I appreciate your patience.
I look forward to seeing you all in my new space! I am very happy here and look at it as my baby, with much opportunity for growth. To refresh everyone’s memory and for those who may be new to me, I offer Botox, Dysport, fillers, filler dissolving, PRF/PRP (platelet rich fibrin and plasma) injections for the face, PRP for hair restoration, skin care products from SkinMedica and Epicutis, Kybella fat dissolving, Upneeq, Nutrafol, Latisse, chemical peels and microneedling with or without PRP. My focus of Excellence Aesthetics is to give a personalized and tailored treatment plan for each individual. I enjoy educating clients, spending time with them, and making sure they feel comfortable and safe with me being their aesthetics provider. I truly enjoy treating clients who come to me wanting a ‘natural’ look. I enjoy this because I believe that we have been flooded with social media and television and what these treatments could make you look like. The above-mentioned treatments can be done not only safely, but tastefully, and very subtly so we achieve your goals, but without overdoing it.
I’ll try not to ramble on much more, but I wanted to touch a bit on my personal life. I just married my amazing fiancé, Chris at the end of September 2023. We have been together since 2021 and met through mutual friends. He works in finance and is an amazing cook and always has dinner ready and waiting for me after my workday. His patience with me is what made me fall in love with him. We enjoy traveling to new places together and we took a beautiful trip to the Maldives at the end of 2021. We also both love to host and have friends over for wine, games, and just fun conversation. We’re both quite social people. We come from very different backgrounds and have different personalities, but I believe that’s what makes us work so well together. Little ole’ me from Wisconsin born and raised, meets boy born and raised in Hong Kong, and now we are married! Yay! We just had our 'fun' wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in April 2024! After we are married, we plan to have children. Well, maybe just start with one, and see how it goes from there.
If you’ve gotten this far, I appreciate you reading about me and my journey and look forward to swapping life stories during your visits.
Thank you all! I couldn’t do this without you all and your continued support! It is greatly appreciated.
Carrie Clark NP
